چکیده
Interactively simulating visual appearance of natural objects under natural illumination is a fundamental problem in computer graphics. 3D computer games, geometry modeling, training and simulation, electronic commerce, visualization, lighting design, digital libraries, geographical information systems, economic and medical image processing are typical candidate applications. Recent advances in graphics hardware have enabled real-time rasterization of complex scenes under artificial lighting environment. Meanwhile, pre-computation based soft shadow algorithms are proven effective under low-frequency lighting environment. Under the most practical yet popular all-frequency natural lighting environment, however, real-time rendering of dynamic scenes still remains a challenging problem. In this dissertation, we propose a systematic approach to render dynamic glossy objects under the general all-frequency lighting environment. In our framework, lighting integration is reduced to two rather basic mathematical operations, efficiently computing multi-function product and product integral. The main contribution of our work is a novel mathematical representation and analysis of multi-function product and product integral in the wavelet domain. We show that, multi-function product integral in the primal is equivalent to summation of the product of basis coefficients and integral coefficients. In the dissertation, we

Non-Linear Phase-Shifting of Haar Wavelets for Run-Time All-Frequency Lighting
This paper focuses on real-time all-frequency image-based rendering using an innovative solution for run-time computation of light transport. The approach is based on new results derived for non-linear phase shifting in the Haar wavelet domain. Although image-based methods for real-time rendering of dynamic glossy objects have been proposed, they do not truly scale to all possible frequencies a...

The aim of this thesis was to study and implement advanced real-time rendering techniques for complex materials such as human skin. The project included investigation on how to adapt and simplify complex skin rendering models to fit current game engines. Also, the task included looking into recent research on spherical harmonics and wavelets. The goal was to determine whether they can be used t...
متن کاملA Fast Volume Rendering Method for Time-Varying 3-D Scalar Field Visualization Using Orthonormal Wavelets
|Animation of a time-varying 3-D scalar eld distribution requires generation of a set of images at a sampled time intervals i.e. frames. Although, volume rendering method can be very advantageous for such 3-D scalar eld visualizations, in case of animation, the computation time needed for generation of the entire set of images can be considerably long. To address this problem, this paper propos...
متن کاملSome New Methods for Prediction of Time Series by Wavelets
Extended Abstract. Forecasting is one of the most important purposes of time series analysis. For many years, classical methods were used for this aim. But these methods do not give good performance results for real time series due to non-linearity and non-stationarity of these data sets. On one hand, most of real world time series data display a time-varying second order structure. On th...
متن کاملSparsely Precomputing The Light Transport Matrix for Real-Time Rendering
Precomputation-based methods have enabled real-time rendering with natural illumination, all-frequency shadows, and global illumination. However, a major bottleneck is the precomputation time, that can take hours to days. While the final real-time data structures are typically heavily compressed with clustered principal component analysis and/or wavelets, a full light transport matrix still nee...
متن کامل3-D Volume Modeling, Feature Identification and Rendering of a Human Skull
Advanced medical imaging technologies have enabled biologists and biomedical researchers to create accurate models and identify features in complex, large-scale data sets. These models, which are typically based on a CT or MRI scan, occupy large amounts of storage space and can no longer be archived on local hard drives. They are also difficult to transmit over currently existing networks. Larg...
